The European Golden Shoe is one of the most coveted individual awards in the world. The award is given to the player with the highest goals across Europe with the current holder being Coro Immobile of Lazio who scored over 36 goals last season to beat Roberto Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo to the award.Having said that, in this article we’ll be taking a look at the how the current Golden Shoe standings looks like.
Please note we’ll only be looking at players from Europe’s top five leagues in this article.
1) Robert Lewandowski
Club/League: Bayern Munich/Bundesliga
Position: Centre forward
Age: 32 years
Goals scored: 17 goals
Just like he did last season, Robert Lewandowski has taken an early lead in this season’s Golden shoe race.
The Polish striker who was recently named the Fifa player of the year has netted an amazing 17 goals so far this season to take his place at the top of the Golden shoe standings
2) Mohammed Salah
Club/League: Liverpool/ Premier league
Position: Right winger
Age: 28 years
Goals scored: 13 goals
Mohammed Salah was nowhere near last season’s contestants in the European Golden Shoe race, but the Egyptian has seen an early season form keep him in the running for this season’s Golden boot race.
Salah would be a strong competitor to Ciro Immobile’s crown.
3) Cristiano Ronaldo

Position: Left winger
Age: 35 years
Goals scored: 12 goals
A four time winner of this award himself, a season does not go by with Ronaldo not in competition for the prestigious goldeb boot award.
And even at 35 years of age, the Portuguese striker has scored 12 league goals in just eight league games this season.
4) Kylian Mbappe
Club/ league: PSG/ Ligue 1
Position: second striker
Age: 21 years
Goals scored: 11 goals
Kylian Mbappe has proven to be renowned goalscorer since bursting onto the scene with Monaco in 2016.
The French striker has shown impressive goalscoring form this season to put himself in the frame for the golden shoe award this season.
5) Heung-min Son
Club/league: Tottenham/Premier league
Position: second striker
Age: 28 years
Goals scored: 11 goals
Heung-min Son’s impressive form in front of goal is one of the many reasons why Tottenham are in firm competition for the English Premier league this season.
The Korean player of the year has scored 11 goals league goals so far this season to rank 5th on our list.
6) Dominic Calvet-lewin
Club/league: Everton / Premier league
Position: Centre forward
Age: 23 years
Goals scored: 11 goals
Despite not scoring in 3 consecutive league games this season, Dominic Calvet-lewin early season form has seen him in contention for European Golden Shoe this season.
While it’ll be a long shot for the Englishman to win the Golden boot, one cannot rule out the 23 years.
7) Zlatan ibrahimovic

Position: Centre forward

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has proven age is just a number since his return to top level European football in January.

8) Erling Haaland

Despite his relative young age, Erling Haaland has made a name for himself as one of best goalscorers of the current generation.
