Premier League ‘Big six’ receive punishment for Super League plans

The Premier League have confirmed the punishments to be handed out to the ‘big six clubs’ involved in the supposed breakaway European Super League.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been fined a combined fee of £20m.

It has also been stated that the clubs will be given another £20m fine and a 30-point deduction if there is another attempt to join a breakaway league.

The six Premier League clubs in question attempted to form a new European competition to replace the Champions League alongside six other European clubs in April.

Within two days, the proposal had collapsed with nine of the members backing out, including all representatives from the Premier League.

Only Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid currently remain in support of the plan
