Gabriel Jesus’ representative has confirmed the Manchester City frontman has held with Arsenal and is interested in switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The Brazilian forward has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, who be in the market for a centre-forward following the departure of Aubameyang while Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are likely to leave the club next month.
Jesus, 25, has a year left on his current deal with the Sky Blues and has refused to commit his future to the club, following the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
In recent weeks, reports from several British media confirmed Arsenal held talk with Brazilian’s agent. However The 25-year-old’s agent, Marcelo Pettinati, now claims Arsenal are one of seven teams interested in Jesus.
‘We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus,’ said Pettinati. ‘We like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing. There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel. He’s focused on the final games with Man City; we’ll see.’
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to be drawn on the talks in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday. ‘I don’t talk about any players that are not with us,’ Arteta said.
Jesus, who has been with City since 2017, has scored 13 goals in 39 appearances for the club in the 2021-22 campaign.
He has started 19 of City’s Premier League games, netting eight goals – including four in the 5-1 win over Watford last month.
Jesus started both legs of City’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid but had hardly featured in the competition before then.
The arrival of Haaland in a deal initially worth £51million – but which is expected to end up costing significantly more – could further sideline Jesus under Pep Guardiola next season.
With Arsenal looking to fill a void up front which could be left if Lacazette and Nketiah depart, a move for Jesus makes sense for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Youri Tieleman, on the other hand, remains one of the top targets for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta plots another big summer in the transfer market.
The 25-year-old midfielder about to enter the final year of his contract at Leicester and there’s no indication that he will sign an extension as eyeing depart from King Power Stadium.
That has sparked interest from several clubs including Arsenal, who have made a new midfielder a priority this summer. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on Tielemans over the past year, but Mikel Arteta believed can sign the Belgian international.
Tieleman, 25, yet to decide his next move but is keen to play in the Champions League, so Arsenal would significantly boost their chances of signing him by securing a top-four spot.
The Gunners are currently fourth and can confirm a place in the Champions League next season if they beat Tottenham in Thursday’s crunch north London derby on Thursday evening
