Christian Pulisic is set to continue his recovery from a hamstring injury at Chelsea ahead of the clash with Newcastle, having linked up with the USMNT during the international break

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic will not play for the USA against Wales tomorrow night, it has been confirmed.

The 22-year-old has joined up with his international team-mates this week, despite missing Chelsea’s past three games because of a hamstring issue, which he sustained during the warm-up as the Blues beat Burnley in October.

He then had a setback in training, which adds to the list of muscle issues Pulisic has had throughout his career, including while at Borussia Dortmund.

Despite this, he linked up with the USMNT for the upcoming international fixtures, with the Chelsea star spending the last few days at the training camp in Wales.

Christian Pulisic in action for Chelsea

Christian Pulisic has missed Chelsea’s last three games with an injury.

But USMNT coach Greg Berhalter has confirmed that will not feature against Wales on Thursday as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem, with Pulisic set to leave the camp to return to Chelsea.

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “When you get injured, when you have a muscle injury, it takes you a while to get fully fit and recover and this is part of his recovery process. I have no doubt that he’s going to be a player that is fit for a very long period of time when he gets through this period.”

However, Berhalter said it was “hard to speculate” when Pulisic would return to Chelsea but added he was ‘making good progress’ and that he had been in the treatment room three times a day while with the USMNT.

Last week, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said that the Blues would be careful with the management of Pulisic’s injury, amid the risk of further setbacks.

“We are looking at ways to manage Christian, we are all working in the same direction on that front. We all know the talent he has and he’s a very important player for us.”

Chelsea are next in action in the Premier League against Newcastle on Saturday, November 21.
