Current EPL Table After Chelsea, Liverpool, And Manchester City Saturday’s Showdown

Newcastle United 0-3 Chelsea:

Chelsea eases past Newcastle United in their Premier League clash at St James’ Park with a 3-0 victory.

Reece James was the star of the show in front of the goal with two brilliant finishes before Jorginho added a third from the penalty spot after Kai Havertz was fouled in the box.

Thomas Tuchel’s men extend their lead at the top of the table with their triumph this afternoon, while Newcastle extends their winless run to 10 league matches.

Newcastle is next in action against Brighton and Hove Albion on the road in the Premier League next Saturday, while Chelsea takes on Malmo in the Champions League in their next outing on Tuesday.

Liverpool 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion:

What a comeback for the visitors, and it finishes 2-2. They found themselves facing a two-goal deficit after early goals from Henderson and then Mane and were perhaps fearing the worst as free-scoring Liverpool looked to be setting themselves up for another big win.

However Mwepu struck before half time and then the Seagulls probably had the better of the second half, especially after Trossard leveled with a clinical finish on 65 minutes.

The Belgian went on to have a goal disallowed for offside and Potter’s men can perhaps count themselves unlucky to be heading back to the south coast with just a single point.

That point for Brighton and Hove Albion means that they remain in the sixth position as they host struggling Newcastle in their next match.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also stays put and still sits in the second position but loses ground on the leaders of Chelsea as the gap extends to three points. They face a tough test away to West Ham United in their next league game.

Manchester City 0-2 Crystal Palace:

Crystal Palace soar to an unexpected victory on the champions’ patch!

The Eagles were well-drilled and dogged and thoroughly deserving of the three points, secured by goals from Zaha and Gallagher. Manchester City was out of sorts, although they weren’t helped by Laporte’s red card late in the first half. They’ll bounce back.

Manchester City is still third in the Premier League table after this disappointing defeat, albeit five points behind leaders Chelsea now. As well as they can play without a traditional striker, they could still do with one. They had 10 shots in the box here but just three on target, while Crystal Palace rise to 13th, well clear of the relegation zone.

Here is how the English Premier League table currently looks like;
