Done Deals, Arsenal To Stop Chelsea From Signing Haaland, Barca Told To Sign Grealish & More

Official: Shawcross Joins Inter Miami

Inter Miami have confirmed the signing of Ryan Shawcross from Stoke on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old, who spent 14 years at Stoke and made over 400 appearances, departed the bet365 Stadium on Friday before his deal was due to expire in the summer.

Shawcross moved to cancel his contract early in order to link up with Phil Neville’s side ahead of the 2021 MLS opener on April 3.

BURTON Albion are delighted to announce the signing of striker Mike Fondop on a contract until the end of the season.

Fondop signs for the Brewers after his short-term deal at National League side Aldershot Town expired and he potentially goes into the squad for this afternoon’s game at home to Sunderland.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian spent the 2019/20 season at Chesterfield and was the Spireites’ top scorer that campaign with 11 goals in 30 games.

Prior to that, Fondop had spells with Wrexham, Oxford City and Margate, and now adds another option to manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s attack.

“He’s a big boy, a good target man, but also mobile,” said Hasselbaink.

Man Utd backed to sign ‘another Bruno Fernandes’ to ensure Man City challenge

Manchester United need to sign “another Bruno Fernandes” in order to challenge with rivals Manchester City, according to former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.

Fernandes has been United’s talisman since he joined the club from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. The Portugal international is the Red Devils’ leading scorer this season with 21 goals to his name in all competitions.

United’s hopes of a first title win in eight years have faded somewhat in recent weeks following disappointing results against Sheffield United and Everton, as well as rivals City hitting top form.

But the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are near the top of the table is largely down to the impact of Fernandes.

Sherwood says he has a winning mentality that other United players need to have.

And he says the recruitment staff need to do all they can to bring in more players like Fernandes.

“I watch him all the time,” Sherwood said on Soccer Saturday.

“At the end of the game when they haven’t won the game, he just shoots down the tunnel.

“He’s so despondent, he has no interest in shaking hands with anyone. It’s just ‘get me down the tunnel’ and it looks like he’s in there shaking his head at all his team-mates.

“He cannot do anymore than what he’s done for that football club. He’s been great.

Mikel Arteta and Edu already have a plan to stop Chelsea from signing Erling Haaland

Erling Braut Haaland is one of world football’s most highly rated prospects at the moment.

The Borussia Dortmund striker scored twice against Sevilla in the Champions League this week to take his goal haul for the season to an incredible 25 from just 24 matches and looks set to battle it out with Kylian Mbappe for the Balon D’Or over the next decade.

Unsurprisingly there are plenty of clubs after the 20-year-old’s signature, with Chelsea rumoured to be one of the favourites.

However their local rivals Arsenal may have found a way to ensure that does not happen.

Another team interested in signing Haaland are Real Madrid as they look for a long-term replacement to replace Karim Benzema in the centre forward position.

However, due to the financial impacts of COVID-19 and financial fair play rules money is very tight for Los Blancos who would have to stump a fee of well over £100m to secure the Norwegian striker’s signature.

This is where Arsenal could come in handy.

The Gunners currently have two players on loan from the Bernabeu in Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard.

Reports have suggested that Mikel Arteta would like to keep both of them in his squad next season, with Edu currently working on deals to make their moves permanent in the summer.

The Gunners boss has previously stated he is a fan of Ceballos and suggested after signing Odegaard temporarily last month that he is open to the idea of keeping him at the Emirates beyond this summer.

If Arsenal were able to secure transfers for both Odegaard and Ceballos this would go a long way to helping Real Madrid fund a move for Haaland.

‘Rip it up’ – Barcelona told to complete mega £130m Aston Villa transfer

Former Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson thinks his old side’s captain, Jack Grealish, should be a transfer target for Barcelona.

Grealish is enjoying a fine campaign, with seven goals and 12 assists to his name in all competitions with Villa threatening to finish in the top half of the Premier League and potentially qualify for European competition after a decade away.

The England international, whose fine performances this campaign earned him his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side in September, has already bettered his contribution to Villa goals last season (18) with 16 games of the campaign remaining.

Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last season but Villa convinced him to stay and kick on with his boyhood club, signing a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2025.

Merson, meanwhile, has lavished praise on Grealish and said he thinks the former Notts County loanee is good enough to play for top La Liga side Barcelona.

The Nou Camp side are in a tricky place having seen big-money signings like Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele fail to produce.

Ronald Koeman’s side were beaten 4-1 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek and Merson thinks the performance in that game is evidence enough that Grealish needs to be at the top of Barca’s transfer shortlist.

“I think that much of him and I think he is one of the best around,” Merson told Sky Sports.
