Christian Pulisic is already BACK in training, reveals Frank Lampard after his hamstring scare against Burnley but American winger will not play in Champions League clash with Rennes
Frank Lampard has issued a positive update on Christian Pulisic, saying the winger’s hamstring injury is very minor and he is already back in training.
However, the American will not be fit enough to play against Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Pulisic withdrew from the warm-up before Chelsea’s Premier League win over Burnley last weekend, leading to fears he could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Frank Lampard has revealed Christian Pulisic’s hamstring injury is not as bad as first thought
But Lampard has revealed a scan on the former Dortmund star’s hamstring has revealed the damage isn’t as bad as first feared.
Speaking before the visit of the Ligue 1 side, Lampard said: ‘Christian had a scan yesterday which showed a minor injury to his hamstring. He’s already been back outside but won’t be fit for tomorrow. We’ll see after that.
‘Its obviously a relief for the injury to be on a small side.
‘He made the right decision to not play [at Burnley] – he’s an important player for us.
‘It’s a hard thing to call [are certain players more susceptible to injuries], it’s forever a challenge, some players who have speed in their game, they can be more susceptible – it’s different for everyone.
‘We were looking at ways to manage Christian last season and be proactive with him.
‘He had experience of [injuries] at Dortmund. We’re working in the same direction to keep him as fit as possible because we know the talent he has.’
