New Chelsea owner plans to bring Sporting CP coach as Graham Potter’s successor

New Chelsea owner led by Todd Boehly has plans to bring Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim as Graham Potter’s successor at Stamford Bridge in the future.

Thomas Tuchel was booted on Wednesday morning following the Blue’s 1-0 shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League encounter at Stadion Maksimir.

Former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and the-times Champions League winning coach Zinedine Zidane with Real Madrid are both out of work and were linked with the vacancy at the West London club.

However, the new Chelsea owner announced the appointment of Potter on Thursday on a five-year deal following three years of association with Brighton & Hove Albion.

But according to the Daily Star claim that Boehly had a big admiration for Ruben Amorim as he planned potential future appointments down the line for the 37-year-old coach despite Potter being yet to take charge of his first game as Chelsea manager.

The report indicates that Chelsea have identified Amorim as a potential replacement in case Potter’s time at Stamford Bridge is not a success.

Amorim won 14 caps for Portugal in his playing career, which included spells at Benfica and SC Braga before he began his coaching career in the third level of Portuguese football with Casa Pia in 2018.

He then moved to Braga, where he won the Portuguese League Cup before taking over at Sporting in 2020 where he clinch the Primeira Liga title for the club’s first time in 19 years, the Taca da Liga on two occasions, and a Portuguese Super Cup.

Sporting got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start on by whipping

Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in Germany.

The Portuguses side face Portimonense in the Premiera Liga before hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League matchday two.

Potter is scheduled to take charge of his first game on Wednesday when his new side play host to Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League
