John Obi Mikel, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, reportedly announced his retirement from football on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, in the wee hours. The outstanding midfielder enjoyed success both at the club and international levels.

While playing at Stamford Bridge, John Obi Mikel was unquestionably one of the best defensive midfielders. During his successful years in West London, the Nigerian great won four FA Cups, one Champions League title, one Europa League title, and two Premier League championships.

John Obi Mikel was an integral part of the Chelsea’s team that won the Champions League against Bayern Munich in 2012.

John Mikel has now retired just like some other Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League winning starting eleven. At the moment, five players from Chelsea’s 2013 Champions League winning starting eleven have retired from football.

Apart from John Obi Mikel, Didier Drogba, Peter Cech, Ashley Cole, and Frank Lampard are the four other stars who have retired from the game.
