Sadio Mane intends to inform Liverpool of his plan to leave the club this summer, according to various transfer reports.

Mane is one of three Liverpool forwards out of contract in 2023, along with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Salah has already confirmed he will be staying for next season, whatever happens. It looks likely Firmino will do the same.

However, there has been more doubt about Mane. The Senegal international has promised to reveal his future after the Champions League final, which Liverpool lost on Saturday.

There was a feeling he was hinting at staying with the club. But links with Bayern Munich and potential other suitors have left the doubts to linger.

Now, Spanish source AS has revealed that Mane will be leaving Liverpool this summer after all.

And their report has been backed up by trustworthy transfer verifier Fabrizio Romano.

He tweeted: “Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer.

“He’s ready for a new experience after many special years with Reds – it will be confirmed to the club.

“FC Bayern are strong contenders – but it’s still open and not completed as Sadio wanted to wait for the final.”

Therefore, Liverpool will at least get the chance to cash in on someone they signed from Southampton for £37million in 2016. It is preferable to losing him for free in 2023

But with the form he has been in, it will be a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s side. Mane has reinvented himself as a centre-forward this season, performing well in between Luis Diaz and Salah.

However, none of them could get a goal during the Champions League final. It means, if Mane is to leave now, his Liverpool career will end with 120 goals from 269 games.

He has played his part in all six of the trophy wins Liverpool have enjoyed under Klopp. But now the 30-year-old is preparing to test himself elsewhere.

Sacrificing Mane may not have been their ideal plan. But it is better than losing him for nothing. Besides, they have plenty of depth up front now.

Keeping Salah is an important move from Liverpool and Diaz has made an impression. If Mane departs, Diogo Jota has shown he is good enough to be their centre-forward. The same goes for Firmino.

Therefore, the time may be right for all parties for Mane’s exit. However, Liverpool can be thankful to him for the sublime service he has given them.
