Timo Werner has finally settled into the Premier League after a slow start and he has been fully involved in the recent international break for Germany. This might be a headache for Chelse boss, Frank Lampard.
Werner who secured a move to Chelsea from Leipzig last summer is expected to be part of Lampard’s squad for Newcastle United clash in the Premier League this weekend.
But before that, he will lead the line for Dir Maannschaft when they travel to Seville to face Spain in the UEFA Nations League group decider. A draw will take Germany to the finals of the competition.
Having made such a good start to life in the Premier League, Lampard won’t want to bench his in-form striker, who is expected to face a herculean task against Spain. It is expected that Germany will covert their chances this time around.
Lampard worries about fatigue affecting Werner after international break
Meanwhile, fatigue could set in for the poacher. This is a course of concern for Lampard after helping the German through his slightly slow start to life in the Premier League,
Having hit his stride in England, the forward has scored four Premier League goals so far, with another three in the Champions League and his Carabao Cup strike against Spurs.
With five goals in his last four games for the Blues, Werner is in a great form and he will be looking to keep that form going when the Blues are back in action.
Ahead of the trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League, Lampard is hoping that Werner returns to Stamdford Bridge from Germany unscathed and in top shape.
Anyways, it is contribution in training that will determine if he will be starting t St. James Park or not. Barring any injury, Werner will be part of the squad for the trip to the North East.
Having started all but one of Chelsea’s matches so far this season, while he has also been a regular for Germany, Werner admitted that slightly being tired due to the number of games he has played.
“Of course, some days I’m tired because of the [number] of games I’ve played.
“But I did it last year as well and these days it’s normal to play so many games,” the Chelsea striker said before the international break.
If a player could say this before playing three games in ten days, fatigue is likely to set in. But let’s wait till the weekend to see where Werner will be in the Blues squad for Lampard after the international break which ends tomorrow.
