AC Milan vs Lazio build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
While AC Milan remain one of just two unbeaten sides in Serie A, along with Juventus, it has not all been plain sailing of late. Pioli’s side have not kept a clean sheet in December, with each of Sassuolo, Genoa, Parma and Sampdoria finding the net against them, while they needed an 83rd-minute goal from Pierre Kalulu to earn a point in the 2-2 draw at Genoa.
However, their recent results show the resilience you would expect of league leaders – and the type of form needed to stay ahead of in-form Inter and Juventus.
Lazio meanwhile have been inconsistent in Serie A, with six wins from their opening 13 matches returning 21 points – 10 fewer than Wednesday’s opponents. However, a 2-0 win over Napoli on Sunday has brought back some much-needed positivity to the Rome-based club.
- AC Milan (vs Sassuolo): Donnarumma; Calabria, Kalulu, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Tonali*, Kessie*; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Calhanoglu, Leao.
- Lazio (vs Napoli): Reina; Felipe, Hoedt, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Escalante, Alberto, Marusic; Immobile, Caicedo.
AC Milan’s top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out with a calf injury and Ante Rebic has a foot problem, meaning Rafael Leao will likely continue up front after scoring the fastest goal in Serie A history after just six seconds against Sassuolo. Simon Kjaer, Ismael Bennacer and Matteo Gabbia are all also sidelined for the hosts.
Sandro Tonali meanwhile is a major doubt, while Franck Kessie is suspended, so Pioli has something of a midfield crisis to contend with later this week.
Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi is still without captain Senad Lulic, Mohamed Fares, Lucas Leiva and Francesco Acerbi.
