Aston Villa vs Brentford
England Premier League,
Date: Saturday, 28 August 2021
Kick-off 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Villa Park.

Aston Villa host Brentford in the third round of the new Premier League season on Saturday afternoon in Birmingham.

Brentford will try and maintain their unbeaten record at the beginning of their first top-flight campaign in 74 years, following impressive displays against London rivals Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the opening two rounds.

Thomas Frank’s squad were popular for their attacking-minded style in the Championship, but the Danish manager seems to have completely shifted the focus since joining the elite class.

Brentford are thus yet to concede a goal in the Premier League, going into this third-round fixture against Aston Villa.

The Bees could have easily grabbed a maximum of six points from the inaugural two outings, but they were unlucky not to convert one of numerous decent chances last weekend at Crystal Palace.

Brentford’s back line will, however, be seriously tested this time around as Aston Villa’s summer signing Danny Ings threatens to score in his third successive appearance for the Lions.

The former Southampton forward scored a beautiful bicycle-kick goal in the last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United.

It will be interesting to see whether he will be joined by Ollie Watkins who is yet to make his debut in the new season (missed the opening two matches through injury).

Aston Villa vs Brentford Head-to-head

These two sides have last locked horns in February 2019 when they were battling it out in the second tier of English football.

Brentford were the more successful side then, picking up four points from two H2H meetings with Villa in the 2018/19 Championship campaign.

Brentford won three and drew two of the last five encounters with the Lions.

Interestingly, four of six head to head clashes between these two outfits at Villa Park ended in draws.

Aston Villa vs Brentford Prediction

The draw is indeed the most likable of the three outcomes here based on everything we’ve seen from the two teams in the opening two fixtures.

Brentford kept their net untouched against both Arsenal and Crystal Palace, while Villa picked up a clean-sheet victory over Newcastle seven days ago. The Under 2.5 goals FT has great value at the odds of 1.90
