Atletico Madrid vs Elche live stream: Watch La Liga

Atletico Madrid will look to bounce back from defeat in El Derbi Madrileno when Elche travel to the capital in La Liga on Saturday at 1pm (UK time).

Diego Simeone saw his side’s 26-game unbeaten run in the Spanish top-flight come to an end at the weekend as Real Madrid ran out 2-0 victors at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, while a further win for Los Blancos on Tuesday night has drawn the clubs level on points.

Atletico currently sit at the top of the table with two games in hand, and will look to get back to winning ways when mid-table Elche come to town.

Atletico Madrid vs Elche build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Simeone will be looking for a reaction from his players after suffering defeat in El Derbi Madrileno on Saturday, with goals from Casemiro and an unfortunate own goal from Jan Oblak separating the sides. Atletico have not lost consecutive La Liga games since February 2019, nearly two years.

That does not bode well for Elche, who are without a win in six games and have only tasted victory in one of their last 12 away La Liga games against Madrilean opponents, which came against Rayo Vallecano in September 2014. Jorge Almiron needs to stop the rot, but Atleti will be desperate to bounce back.

  • Atletico Madrid (vs Real Madrid): Oblak; Savic, Felipe, Hermoso; Trippier, Llorente, Koke, Herrera*, Carrasco; Felix, Suarez.
  • Elche (vs Granada): Badia; Barragan, Verdu, Gonzalez, Josema; Marcone, Morente, Milla, Fidel, Fernandez; Boye.

Hector Herrera was withdrawn at half time in the defeat to Real Madrid and the club confirmed he has suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh, with the Mexican now expected to be sidelined until the New Year.

Simeone will also be without Jose Gimenez and Manu Sanchez, while Diego Costa faces a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Elche will be without former Southampton forward Guido Carrillo.

Players to watch:

Atletico Madrid: Having fired a blank in his last two La Liga games and having missed the two matches prior, Luis Suarez has not found the back of the net since a 4-0 win over Cadiz on matchday nine, back at the start of November. He was kept on ice for the 3-0 Copa del Rey first-round win over Cardassar in midweek so will be fresh for the match against Elche. The Uruguayan may turn 34 next month but he remains a key component of Simeone’s frontline and a world-class goalscorer on his day. The goalmouth rarely lives a charmed life when Suarez is on the pitch and he will be champing at the bit to get back on the scoresheet and aid Atletico in their title bid.

Elche: It will not be an easy task keeping the lid on Suarez and Co, particularly if they are riled up from their defeat to Los Blancos last time out, but in Edgar Badia, Elche have a competent shot-stopper and La Liga’s second-busiest goalkeeper this season (40 saves). No stranger to shots being peppered at his goal, Badia can expect an onslaught this weekend but he will not be intimidated as he boasts a commendable 78.43 per cent save percentage, the second-best record for La Liga ‘keepers. Only Jan Oblak in the opposite goal has a higher save percentage this term (89.47 per cent).
