Chelsea vs Plymouth
England – FA Cup
Date: Saturday, 5 February 2022
Kick-off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had a terrible start to the year in terms of league performances, for a team with title hopes. They had returned to winning ways in their latest league match, which came against Spurs in a London derby as the match ended with a score line 2-0 at home.

With many touting them out of the title race, the team could do with a boost of morale for winning silverware by registering a dominant win this Saturday, leading into the UCL knockouts, FIFA Club World Cup and the League Cup finals.

Plymouth on the other hand are fighting for one of the promotion playoffs spots in League One. Similar to their opponents the club had a poor start to January but will head into the fixture off the back of convincing results.

The Blues, having ended runners up in the FA Cup last year to Leicester City, will look to clear the final hurdle this time around eyeing their 9th title.

The club has started off the campaign in style, registering a 5-1 win at home against Chesterfield in the 3rd round proper of this campaign.

The Pilgrims were last seen in a 1-3 win against bottom place Doncaster Rover in a league fixture. This was the club’s first win in four games.

After getting past Sheffield Wednesday and Rochdale in the first and second rounds respectively, they got the better of championship side Birmingham in extra time to make it to the final thirty two of the tournament.

Chelsea vs Plymouth Head-to-head

This contest marks the pair’s first ever competitive fixture.

Chelsea vs Plymouth Prediction

Despite competing in the top flight of English football and taking part in the Champions League, the Londoners have lost just once in fourteen previous matches across all competitions.

Whereas their opponents have won just once in their last four league matches and have lost six times in eleven preceding fixtures. Consequently expect a dominant win for Chelsea.

Argyle have scored in seven consecutive away matches across all competitions albeit while competing at a lower level. However, over the last year, we have witnessed the Blues concede against EFL clubs, Chesterfield and Luton Town. Considering the stakes involved the BTTS wager sounds like a fair shout.

Chelsea take on Plymouth in the 4th round of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.

Thomas Tuchel misses the game today after testing positive for covid-19 but he’s still been the man to select the starting eleven. The German coach has picked Kepa in goal with Edouard Mendy given a rest following his participation at the African Cup of Nations.

Andreas Christensen is passed fit to return and he starts at the heart of Chelsea’s defence alongside Antonio Rudiger. Malang Sarr also gets a start while Cesar Azpilicueta keeps his place meaning Marcos Alonso and Trevor Chalobah are named among the substitutes this afternoon.

Chelsea have gone with a strong midfield as Mateo Kovacic joins Jorginho in the starting eleven. Saul Niguez is on the bench but N’Golo Kante is given the day off ahead of the Club World Cup.

Hakim Ziyech starts for Chelsea as does Callum Hudson-Odoi while Mason Mount keeps his place in attack. Romelu Lukaku leads the line up front so Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ross Barkley all have to settle for places on the bench.

Kenedy is also back in the Chelsea squad after returning from loan but Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva miss out having returned back late from international duty.

Here are the confirmed line-ups:

Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Sarr; Kovacic, Jorginho; Ziyech, Mount, Hudson-Odoi; Lukaku.

Subs: Bettinelli, Sharman-Lowe, Alonso, Chalobah, Kenedy, Saul, Barkley, Havertz, Werner.

Cooper; Edwards, Wilson, Scarr, Gillesphey, Grant; Camara, Houghton, Mayor; Jephcott, Garrick

Subs: Burton, Bolton, Broom, Hardie, Ennis, Lewis, Randell, Law, Craske

Less than 15 minutes to kick-off – let’s get the win, Blues!
