Everton will be looking to inflict more punishment on Manchester United when they square off in the Premier League on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off).

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men head to Goodison Park having lost back-to-back games across all competitions. A disappointing 1-0 league loss to Arsenal was followed by a humbling 2-1 defeat at Champions League opponents Basaksehir.

The Toffees, meanwhile, aren’t exactly pulling up any trees at the moment as they’ve won just one of their previous four league matches and successive losses at Southampton and Newcastle has seen them adrift of Merseyside rivals Liverpool who currently sit atop of the table.

Everton & Man Utd’s previous line-ups:

  • Everton (vs Newcastle): Olsen; Kenny, Mina, Keane, Nkounkou; Delph, Doucouré, Allan; Gomes*, Sigurdsson; Calvert-Lewin.

  • Man Utd (vs Basaksehir): Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Van de Beek; Mata, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Brazilian forward Richarlison serves the final game of his ban. Lucas Digne returns from suspension but Everton are still without Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate and Jean-Philippe Gbamin while there are doubts over the availability of Ben Godfrey, Andre Gomes and James Rodriguez.

Eric Bailly and Phil Jones will not travel to Goodison Park and they could be joined by Victor Lindelof and Jesse Lingard. However, Anthony Martial is available in the Premier League once more after suspension.

Players to watch:

Everton: The goals looked to have dried up when Dominic Calvert-Lewin recently went 189 minutes without scoring for the Toffees. A consolation strike at Newcastle United in stoppage time last weekend leaves the 23-year-old on eight Premier League goals across seven matches and his form at Goodison Park should give a wounded Man Utd side pause for thought. Calvert-Lewin has netted in each of Everton’s previous three home games this season including a stunning hat-trick against West Brom before grabbing a precious equaliser in an entertaining Merseyside derby. He also struck in the clubs’ previous meeting, finding the net after three minutes, a moment David de Gea will not want to remember.

Man Utd: After starting life at Old Trafford on fire so much was expected of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes heading into 2020/21. His first outing against Crystal Palace was disastrous but he made amends in Man Utd’s next three games, scoring three times and creating two more. But he’s been quiet since as the Red Devils performed lackadaisically against top-six rivals Chelsea and Arsenal at home. Fernandes is expected to feature against Everton from the off and given it’s a return to a ground where he performed reasonably well before expect it to psychologically motivate him to become Man Utd’s most potent creative threat.

Scoreline prediction: Everton 2-1 Man Utd
