Defending champions Juventus will look to keep pace with Serie A leaders AC Milan when they travel to Genoa on Sunday at 5pm (UK time).
The Old Lady have won the last nine Italian top-flight titles but currently sit in fourth place after 10 games this season, one point behind Inter in second and six adrift of early leaders AC Milan.
Genoa, meanwhile, need the points on Sunday for entirely different reasons, with Rolando Maran’s side languishing in 19th with just six points from 10 games.
Cuadrado Juventus build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
After beating Crotone 4-1 on the opening weekend, Genoa have gone nine Serie A games without a win, managing just three draws during that time in a run which has seen them slip into the relegation zone. The Red and Blues have scored the second-lowest number of goals (nine) in the Italian top-flight this term and need to start picking up points quickly if they’re to avoid falling into Serie B for the first time since 2007.
That said, Genoa are unlikely to receive any favours from Juventus. Despite sitting fourth, Andrea Pirlo’s side are unbeaten in Serie A this season, winning five and drawing five of their 10 games so far and conceding a league-low eight goals along the way. The Old Lady won both meetings with Genoa last season and will be looking for a repeat in order to keep the pressure on AC Milan, Inter and Napoli above them.
- Genoa (vs Fiorentina): Marchetti; Goldaniga, Bani, Zapata, Masiello; Radovanovic; Lerager, Pellegrini; Sturaro; Scamacca, Shomurodov.
- Juventus (vs Barcelona): Buffon; Danilo, Bonucci, De Ligt; Cuadrado, McKennie, Arthur, Ramsey, Sandro; Morata, Ronaldo.
Genoa’s recent form has not been helped by the injury crisis they’re currently suffering, with Cristian Zapata, Francesco Cassata, Davide Zappacosta, Domenico Criscito, Davide Biraschi and Mattia Perin all injured for the visit of Juventus.
Matthijs de Ligt is likely to be rested this weekend, while Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral are both injured. Juventus have won their appeal to reduce Alvaro Morata’s suspension, so the Spaniard will be available here.
Player to watch: Alvaro Morata
With Alvaro Morata‘s suspension lifted, one of Serie A’s most productive attacking partnerships will be restored this weekend, with the Spain international setting up Cristiano Ronaldo for two goals this season while netting a further three himself
Morata has created the third-highest number of chances (13) among Juventus players in Serie A this season and there’s no doubting his unique blend of physicality, aerial dominance and intelligent movement offers Pirlo a brilliant option when looking to create space and opportunities for Ronaldo.
Aside from the Portuguese icon, Morata is the only other Juventus player with more than two Serie A goals this season, while his three strikes contribute to a total of nine non-Ronaldo goals — just one more than the former Real Madrid and Man Utd man has on his own. With Genoa struggling for goals and conceding the fourth-highest amount (19) in Serie A themselves, Morata will be hopeful of getting plenty of chances to add to his tally.
