The top two in the Premier League go head-to-head on Wednesday (8pm kick-off, UK time) as Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The two sides currently sit on 25 points apiece after 12 games, winning seven, drawing four and losing just one of their matches so far, with Spurs only topping the pile thanks to their superior goal difference.

Liverpool vs Spurs build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Despite topping the table, both Liverpool and Spurs are looking for a return to winning ways, with each drawing their last match 1-1. Jurgen Klopp’s men could only follow up their Champions League stalemate against FC Midtjylland with another draw away at Fulham over the weekend, while Spurs suffered a similar fate against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

That said, Liverpool are enjoying an eight-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, while Jose Mourinho’s side haven’t tasted defeat since the opening weekend.

Something has to give here and with the likes of Leicester and Southampton waiting to pounce on any potential slip-ups, both sides will be going full tilt for the points.

  • Liverpool (vs Fulham): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip*, Fabinho, Robertson; Jones, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
  • Spurs (vs Crystal Palace): Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Bergwijn, Ndombele, Son; Kane.

Joel Matip was forced off with a back problem against Fulham and faces a late fitness test, with Klopp confirming the medical staff are working around the clock to aid the Cameroon international in his recovery.

“The physios worked pretty much 24 hours on him [Matip], so we will see. Today we have another session and then we will see,” the German told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

Klopp remains without a host of other long-term absentees, including Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Thiago, while Diogo Jota is out for a number of weeks. James Milner is also out, while Naby Keita faces a late fitness test after taking part of Monday’s session at the AXA Training Centre.

Gareth Bale should be fit enough to return to the bench for Spurs, although the Lilywhites remain without Erik Lamela.

Players to watch:

  • Liverpool: While the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy have dominated the goalscoring headlines this season, Mohamed Salah quietly moved onto 10 Premier League goals with his strike against Fulham last time out, now just one adrift of the aforementioned Everton striker in the Golden Boot standings. The ‘Egyptian King’ has three goals and an assist in his last three appearances for Liverpool across all competitions and is hitting some blistering form. What’s more, only Bournemouth and Watford (both eight) have conceded more goals to Salah than Tottenham (seven) across the former Chelsea man’s career so far. Mourinho, you have been warned.
  • Spurs: Whether it’s scoring a goal himself or creating one for his teammates, Harry Kane has been at the centre of everything good for Mourinho’s side so far in 2020/21. The England international has provided more assists (10) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues, while his strike against Palace last time out was his ninth in the Premier League this season, moving him into third place in the race for the Golden Boot. Kane has scored 15 goals in 19 appearances for Spurs this term (all competitions), including 13 assists, adapting beautifully to his role as a pseudo-playmaker. He already has six goals and two assists in 11 career appearances against Liverpool, but with just one win under his belt against the Reds, Kane will hope to turn that individual form into a team effort.
