Olympiacos vs Arsenal
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 11 March 2021
Kick-Off at 20.00 UK
Venue: Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki, Piraeus.

Olympiacos advanced to the Europa League last 16 round thanks to the 88th-minute goal by substitute Koka two weeks ago.

The Egyptian attacker pulled one goal back for his team in the reverse fixture of the PSV tie to set the final score at 2-1 for the Ditch outfit. As the Greeks won the first match 4-2 on the home court, they went through and booked a R16 clash against the English giants Arsenal.

Olympiakos were stopped at this very stage of the competition last season by the English opposition. They fell 2-1 on aggregate against Wolves on the occasion. They have had a devastating UEFA Champions League campaign this term with one win and five defeats in six group-phase affairs.

Pedro Martins’ men did win another Greek Super League title but we can’t quite see them causing much harm against highly-motivated Arsenal in this tie.

Olympiacos vs Arsenal Head-to-head

  • Interestingly, the outfits have five wins apiece going into their 11th H2H meeting (no draws at all).
  • They have played each other in the last 32 round of this competition last season when Olympiacos stunned the Gunners by snatching a 1-2 victory after extra-time at Emirates Stadium.
  • Arsenal have won the first leg 0-1 in Greece.

Olympiacos vs Arsenal Prediction

Mikel Arteta has shifted the main focus from the Premier League to the Europa League. After all, the Gunners have had a dreadful campaign in this term of the English elite tier and they can only save the season by going all the way here.

Their fans have several positive signs to look ahead, namely the form of the team’s skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese forward has completed a hat-trick in a 4-2 home win over Leeds United before netting two goals in the 3-2 victory over Benfica in the previous round of the Europa League.

Auba was also on the scoreline in the weekend’s 1-1 draw at Burnley and we see the value in backing him to score anytime at the odds of 2.00 here. After all, Olympiacos conceded two goals in each of the fixtures against PSV in the last 32 round of the competition.

Arsenal are favourites in our eyes and we will back them to win at the odds of 1.90.
