Can Josh Sargent (l.) fire Werder Bremen back to winning ways and heap more misery on Erling Haaland-less (r.) Borussia Dortmund?
Borussia Dortmund are still without Erling Haaland when they travel to Werder Bremen in their first game since the dismissal of head coach Lucien Favre on Tuesday (kick-off: 7.30pm GMT).
Dortmund’s troubles will be of little concern to Bremen. After going eight matches unbeaten, the Green-Whites have suffered thee straight defeats to Wolfsburg, VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig. Chances were at a premium in their 2-0 loss to title candidates Leipzig, who stopped Josh Sargent and Co. from scoring for the first time since Matchday 32 of last season. Romano Schmid was handed his full Bundesliga debut at the Red Bull Arena, but makes way for Yuya Osako in attack. Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong is on the bench despite Bremen being withtou top scorer Niclas Füllkrug and Milot Rashica still on the sidelines.
Dortmund head north not only without the services of their chief marksman, the 10-goal Haaland, but on the back of a heavy 5-1 home loss to Stuttgart that cost Favre his job after two-and-a-half years at the helm. Assistant coach Edin Terzic has been appointed on an interim basis until the end of the current campaign, the 38-year-old initially charged with ending a run of three Bundesliga matches without a win. Favre’s ex-deputy won’t be able to call on right-back Thomas Meunier or attacker Thorgan Hazard, but does hand record-breaking teenager Youssoufa Moukoko a first Bundesliga start as the spearhead of a Dortmund side that has not scored more than once in any of their three league games since Haaland hit four second-half goals in the 5-2 win at Hertha Berlin on Matchday 8.
